FAQ

What is Jobless Warrior?

We are private citizens who wish to help.  Our mission is simple:  End unemployment and underemployment for our heroic warriors by enhancing their job search effectiveness via one-on-one, professional support and other essential resources.

There are many great governmental and nonprofit organizations already providing job assistance to veterans, and we applaud them for their efforts. We are confident that there is an additional, untapped reservoir of goodwill throughout the country that will help us to augment existing programs for our heroic Jobless Warriors.

Our philosophy is:

Give a Veteran a job, and he or she will work today.

Teach a Veteran how to get a job, and he or she will work for a lifetime.

Why is Jobless Warrior needed?

While we complain about an 8-9% overall unemployment rate, it is much worse for our veterans.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, young male veterans, ages 18 to 24, who served during the Gulf War II era, including those who have served at any time since September 2001, had an unemployment rate of 21.9 percent in 2010 (significantly higher than the national average- at nearly double the rate).

The veterans unemployment rate is on a steady incline and has even risen noticeably since 2010. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the rate of unemployment for all military veterans increased from 11.5% in June 2010 to 13.3% in June 2011.

Veterans unemployment rates are not expected to decline any time soon either. Unemployment among veterans could potentially rise even further in upcoming months as more troops return from overseas, especially if our overall economy continues to sputter.

It is disgraceful and unacceptable that these heroes, who risked all to protect our way of life, face such dismal job prospects when they return.

What type of free career search services does Jobless Warrior offer?

We have a growing team of professional career search volunteers who will provide free, one-on-one services to our unemployed military men and women.  These professionals include Career Coaches, Resume Writers, Job Networking Groups, Recruiters, Employers and more.

Are there any fees associated with using Jobless Warrior?

This website is free to use - and always will be - for everyone: veterans, career professionals, employers, other businesses and citizen volunteers.

I see that some volunteer services/products may be “discounted.”  What does this mean for me?

Once a volunteer has provided the required free service to one of our Jobless warriors, there can be a mutual decision to continue working together.  The volunteer is required to then offer a substantial discount for any subsequent services that are provided.  The warrior is under no obligation to continue with the volunteer after the free service has been provided.

In fact, it is our hope that many volunteers will continue to work with a veteran, at no charge, beyond the initial free period.  Some volunteers have already indicated that they plan to "adopt" the veterans that they work with and see them through the entire process until a suitable job has been accepted.  We strongly encourage this approach.

Finally, if you do not wish to pay any fees, discounted or otherwise, and the volunteer is unable to continue providing free services (they have to pay their bills, too), you can consider coming back to Jobless Warrior and opting to work with a different volunteer for as long as he or she will work with you at no charge.

Bottomline:  We want you to get the job that you deserve as a true hero of our nation.  Use as many volunteers as you need to get that great job!

How does a military veteran use Jobless Warrior?

Once the Jobless Warrior has read the How to Use Jobless Warrior webpage, he or she should go to the "Warriors" section of the website.  They will then see the types of professionals and other organizations that are willing to work with them.  The warrior can then contact Jobless Warrior to be connected with our volunteers.

How does a career search professional Volunteer on Jobless Warrior?

Potential volunteers should either go to the Volunteers page of Jobless Warrior or send an email info@joblesswarrior.org and indicate an interest in Volunteering.

How can a non-career professional help?

There are many ways to help an unemployed military hero in his or her job search.  For example, if you provide a job search related service or product (e.g., you are a hairstylist, own a business apparel store, or can provide computer training) we would be pleased to list you in our Other Ways to Help section.

You can also help the Jobless Warrior organization.  Jobless Warrior does not accept financial donations, but we can always use web design skills, PR skills, etc., if you would like to help us enhance the website or get the word out.

If you do not fit into any of the categories mentioned above, but you would still like to help, we could use help getting the word out about Jobless Warrior.  Send out emails to your family, friends, and colleagues.  Let as many people as possible know about what we are doing and why it is important.  You can have an impact on how well Jobless Warrior works for our returning heroes.

Send us an email at info@joblesswarrior.org and we will be happy to discuss how you can help in more detail.

Do you accept donations?

No.  Jobless Warrior is privately funded and does not accept financial contributions.  If you would like to help, please inform your family, friends, and colleagues about Jobless Warrior.  We need to raise "friends" not "funds."
